Bristol Old Vic

The Bristol Old Vic theatre is the oldest continuously operating theatre in England. In 2012, the Grade I listed building underwent extensive refurbishment works. The challenge came in completing these works with minimal effect on live performances and in a way that would protect and preserve the building’s historic structure.

Our team provided engineering and measured building surveys for the refurbishment, including setting-out of level datums, grid lines, lift shafts and the location of critical structural elements, as well as survey of existing and built structural elements.

Our surveyors were involved with the project at all phases, building up a good working relationship with the contractors. The works were successfully completed, and our team went on to support the same contractors at the Gainsborough Hotel, a similarly complex heritage site in Bath.
